Saucy Sunday : Bloody Mary
My husband and I went to Bali for our honeymoon. It was absolutely amazing, and some day we’ll go back!
We were celebrating (duh!) so we both enjoyed cocktails..whenever really - sometimes for breakfast! Well, it’s not customary to drink alcohol before the afternoon. Anyone serving us thought it was hilarious that we wanted to have a mai tai or bloody mary with our scrambled eggs! You guys, these bloody mary’s were so good, unlike any other bloody mary cocktail I’d ever ordered before. I was having a hard time understanding why it would take so long for the drink to arrive after I ordered it (and I’m very patient). I learned that they were fresh pressing the tomatoes to make the juice that made my cocktail!! FRESH TOMATO JUICE! No wonder they were so good.
Now, if I’m making bloody’s at home, they will always be made with fresh tomato juice! How do you do this, you ask? Place your tomatoes in the blender (2 vine tomatoes will make about 2-3 cocktails), blend, and then strain (to catch the seeds). That’s it! So, so, so good!
There’s my rant, now on to today’s cocktail. I can’t think of a better way to soak in some weekend and football than with a Bloody Mary!
What You’ll Need:
-1/2 cup fresh tomato juice (blend it folks, I’m tellin’ you!)
-2 oz vodka
-1 tablespoon worcestershire
-1 tablespoon lime juice
-1 tablespoon lemon juice
-1/2 teaspoon horseradish
-1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
-for glass: paprika + celery salt
-garnish: lemon, lime, celery stalk, pickled tomatoes (here’s the link for these), cheese, or bacon
Place everything in a shaker with a bit of ice, shake, pour over ice, garnish, enjoy!
